I recently heard from a seller of a Rapido folding caravan. He had new tyres fitted and some damage to a wheel arch. He purchased the trailer with new tyres fitted and holidayed in France. A tyre blew out, causing some damage to the wheel arch. He went to a garage to be told that his new tyres were car tyres, he was advised to fit proper caravan tyres which he did. From memory, He thought that car tyres are 5ply, caravan tyres are 7ply (?) I have not checked the, new , tyres on my caravan yet but wonder if the very low gross weight of 630kg would make car tyres OK , if they are fitted. What do you think. Wheels are very small on my unit 10", I think that's about Mini (old style) size. John

I went to my local VW commercial dealer to book in my T4 2.5 TDI Caravelle.
I asked for a quote for a full service and a breakdown of how those charges add up I was given a quote for a 60,00 mile service of 245 pounds. Not too bad I thought until I noticed that the price for the engine oil was over 90 pounds When I asked why it was so expensive, I was told that it was the recommended oil from VW and would last for 20,000 miles But the van has a 10,000-mile service interval ????? Can any one else see the problem here or am I just being finicky. I went home and changed the oil and filter my self at a cost of 30 quid. Do you think that the garage will get any more of my money? I do not think so. Has any one else had this type of experience? Regards Andy Macdonald

I recently have had an axel fail on a rapido-folding caravan.
This was due to non-existent maintenance by previous owners If you own and use a rapido caravan, then at very least, a once yearly check on all moving parts is essential The axel failed because it had not seen a grease gun for a very long time Causing undue wear and damage to the suspension. Luckily I noticed the problem and fixed it by building a new axel. This involved buying a pair of 750 kg braked suspension units. 218 pounds A new 125mm by 50mm by 6mm C section iron bar. 35 pounds Then a further 40 pounds for bolts and welding rods/wire Then welding the suspension units onto the bar, and bolting the bar onto the chassis of the caravan. This seem to be an extreme action, but as the spare parts for these vans are very hard to get, it was the only way I could find out of the problem. So be warned GET THE GREASE GUN OUT. Andy Macdonald
